    Considerations:

    •  The number of accepted checked bags depends on the availability of space on the aircraft
    • From the third checked bag and on, they will be considered conditional and if there is no room for them on the aircraft, they will be sent in the next flight or by courier service
    • The maximum weight of a checked bag is 99 lbs, otherwise, it won’t be accepted and must be sent by Cargo service (subject to availability)
    • You can not join two pieces of checked baggage with either plastic, tape, ribbons, etc; because they won’t be accepted under any circumstances as one piece. In this case, the additional bag will be charged
    • We accept a cardboard box, under checked-in baggage specifications as long as:
      • It is in good condition
      • It was not used to transport neither hazardous materials, nor eggs (meeting phytosanitary measures)

     

    Recommendations:

    • Save money buying extra baggage in advance. You can purchase during your booking process or before arriving to the airport
    • When you check-in at counter, make sure that your bag tags match your reservation then,  when  arriving at the final destination, review they match too

    Special Baggage

    We can take a cardboard box as part of the allowed baggage, as long as they meet the following requirements:

    • Does not exceed the 55 lbs. allowed
    • Cardboard box must be in good condition
    • The box must not have being used to transport dangerous materials o pultry products such as eggs (This is to meet sanitary conditions)
    • If the cardboard box exceeds the 55 lbs. and up to 99 lbs. it is considered a pieces of allowed baggage but with an extra charge

     

    Seafood or perishables

    Perishable items can be transported as carry-on luggage or billed pieces, at the client’s own responsibility, as long as the established conditions set forth in this section are met, and in accordance with the laws and regulations applicable to the region or country where the flight takes place. The airline reserves the right to accept these kinds of goods if they don’t meet any or all of the conditions henceforth.

    Accepted perishable items include fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, dairy products and serum solutions.

    Terms and Conditions:

    • Fruits and Vegetables:
      • They must have an internal plastic wrapping (bags) and be placed in an external firm container (such as cardboard, rigid plastic, wood, Styrofoam, etc.)
      • External container covers must be fastened with plastic tape.
      • Products requiring dry ice (solid CO2) must use a maximum of 2.5 Kg. of this product per client (only as carry on luggage) as long as the piece has several air holes allowing for the liberation of the carbon dioxide gas.
    • Meats and seafood:
      • They must have rigid plastic containers (iceboxes)
      • The container may not be torn, broken or show damage that could lead to leaking
      • Container covers must be fastened with a plastic tape
      • In case Styrofoam iceboxes are used (polyestyrene), a perfectly sealed plastic bag must be wrapped outside of it
      • Products requiring dry ice (solid CO2) must use a maximum of 2.5 Kg. of this product per client (only as carry on luggage) as long as the piece has several air holes allowing for the liberation of the carbon dioxide gas.

      * Note: To transport fish and dry seafood, it is necessary to have a container that will also contain the smell.

    • Dairy and serum solution related products:

      • Firm plastic containers (iceboxes)
      • The container may not be torn, broken or show damage that could lead to leaking
      • Container covers must be fastened with a plastic tape
      • In case Styrofoam iceboxes are used (polyestyrene), a perfectly sealed plastic bag must be wrapped outside of it
      • Products requiring dry ice (solid CO2) may use up to 2.5 kg. The carrying device must be ventilated to the permit carbon dioxide gas's release.

    Baggage Liability (Domestic Flights)

    The Passenger shall not carry in checked baggage: money, jewelry, art pieces, securities, stocks, bonds, electronic devices such as radios, cell phones, computers and cameras among others; medication and treatments, perishables, liquids, fragile items. It is also prohibited to carry weapons of any kind, gases, flammable substances, lighters, corrosive items, explosives and magnets among other things. Volaris will not be responsible for the loss of any of the aforementioned items, which will not be considered as baggage, and are being carried without the knowledge or consent of Volaris.


    If for any reason the Customer’s checked baggage does not arrive on the assigned conveyor with the rest of the flight’s baggage, the Customer shall present a claim with the Volaris personnel in charge, who will provide him/her with a baggage claim form. The same procedure shall be followed in case of baggage damage.


    Baggage damage or loss (Domestic Flights)

    Compensation due to damage or loss of the checked baggage will be determined pursuant to Mexico’s Civil Aviation Law. For damages or loss of hand/carry-on baggage up to 40 (forty) minimum salaries. For damage or loss of checked baggage, up to 75 (seventy five) minimum salaries. All compensations will be calculated with the minimum salary valid in Mexico City when the damage or loss occurs.


    Baggage delay (Domestic Flights)

    If Customer’s checked baggage does not arrive at the city of destination with him, upon Customer’s request, Airline will provide, for each day of delay, the amount of $250.00 (two hundred and fifty pesos and 00/100) per day for up to three days, meaning Customer will receive a maximum of $750.00 (seven hundred and fifty pesos and 00/100) as compensation for checked baggage delay.


    Baggage Liability (International Flights)


    The Passenger shall not carry in checked baggage medication and treatments, perishables, liquids, or fragile items. It is also prohibited to carry weapons of any kind, gases, flammable substances, lighters, corrosive items, explosives and magnets, among other things. Volaris does not recommend the transportation of valuable items such as money, jewelry, art pieces, values, electronic articles such as radios, cell phones, computers, cameras and other valuable belongings in checked baggage.


    If for any reason the Customer’s checked baggage does not arrive on the assigned conveyor with the rest of the flight’s baggage, the Customer shall present a claim with the Volaris personnel in charge, in accordance with the terms established in the Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air executed in Montreal in 1999 (the “Montreal Convention”). The same procedure shall be followed in case of baggage damage.


    Baggage damage or loss (International Flights):

    Compensation due to damage or loss of the checked baggage will be determined pursuant to and in accordance with the limits established in the Montreal Convention.


    Baggage delay (International Flights):

    If Customer’s checked baggage does not arrive at the city of destination with him, responsibility will be determined pursuant to and in accordance with the limits established in the Montreal Convention.
